Every June there is a festival at our Riverfront Park called “World Beat“. The festival recognizes different cultures represented in our community of 155,000. It provides us with a way to learn more about the people who live here. There are always wonderful booths with colorful baskets, clothing, and food as well as interesting music and this year was no exception. The country in the spotlight this year was Cuba. Besides the food which we sampled (pulled pork and the best plantains!) we spent some time listening to a wonderful Cuban band. There were fortune tellers, Indian Pow Wow groups, Polynesian dancers, and booths where people could get henna designs on their hands or feet or learn about a specific country. I’m always amazed at the diversity of our town. Enjoy!!
