On Saturday, hidden in a huge stand of evergreen trees near Silverton, Oregon we found Canterbury. The Queen and her entourage presided over jousting and other horsemanship games as all the knights rode rescue horses. She then walked through the forest with her court, visiting each of the merchants in tents tucked among the pines. Blacksmiths and weavers, storytellers and harpists, axe grinders and woodworkers – all in costume – and all providing one of the most realistic Renaissance Faires we have ever attended. Many of the people visiting Canterbury were in costume. I’ve marked our calendar for 2014 – perhaps we will go in costume too. My husband was eyeing Monk’s garb (seriously?), while I fancy myself a wench. Well, maybe.
